High Performance Academy (HiPe)
The Oberthur HiPe Academy was established in 2025 in order to provide a school-based extension program for selected high performing students in Year Five and Six.
A highly qualified and experienced teacher in the area of gifted and talented learning was identified through a recruitment process and appointed to lead the program.
The Year Five group and the Year Six group meet with the teacher on Thursday of each week. There is a separate morning session for one year group and an afternoon session for the other group.
The HiPe Academy program offers intellectually stimulating and challenging learning experiences beyond the standard curriculum, focusing on developing thinking skills and problem-solving, as well as fostering a love for learning. Higher order thinking skills are enhanced and students’ intellectual curiosity is nurtured. There is also a focus on developing executive functioning skills to enable students to be responsible for their own learning.
The High-Performance Academy (HiPe) is a part-time, supplementary program for high-potential Year 5 and 6 students that are delivered in various modes, on site at Obethur Primary School on Thursdays.
The program typically runs weekly with a term-by-term program of events and activities. It offers intellectually stimulating and challenging learning experiences beyond the standard curriculum, focusing on developing thinking skills, problem-solving, and fostering a love for learning.
Our program provides opportunities for extended learning, skill development, and challenging experiences through advanced activities and projects. The program aims to extend students’ learning, challenge their thinking, and nurture their intellectual curiosity. HPLP helps students develop critical and creative thinking, problem-solving, and independent learning skills.
Students are selected for the program through aptitude testing, undertaken towards the end of Year 4. The test includes Reading Comprehension and Reasoning by Analogy. Mathematical Reasoning (MR) comprised of 25 multiple-choice items of two item types: Mathematical Reasoning and Abstract Reasoning. To be invited to participate in our program, students typically need to score in the 98th or 99th percentile on this PEAC testing tool.

The skills, knowledge, and experiences gained through our High-Performance Academy prepares students not only for success in education but also for leadership roles in their future careers. We go beyond the standard curriculum, encouraging critical thinking, creativity, communication and advanced problem-solving skills. A dedicated teacher supports and leads the program and is the primary contact for parents and students. Susie Swinhoe, our trained teacher in Gifted and Talented education, mentors and supports each student’s extension program.
Enriched Incursions and Extracurricular Activities
Through the HiPe students are offered a range of extracurricular activities designed to further develop a learner’s talents and interests. This includes participation in competitive academic competitions and leadership opportunities
